Wars costs $11.6bn a month, says Pentagon
The Age, October 2, 2011
WASHINGTON. The average monthly cost to the US of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq this fiscal year is $11.6 billion ($A11.9 billion), according to the Pentagon.
The Pentagon comptroller’s office said the figure, for July 30, was up from an average of $9.7 billion a month at April 30. The total includes war-related operations, transport, special combat pay and benefits, food, medical services, maintenance, replacement of equipment and building the Iraq and Afghanistan security forces. The Afghanistan increase has been driven chiefly by greater command, control and intelligence equipment, and maintenance and base support of armoured vehicles.
